Lung Cancer Facts
Lung Cancer is the #1 cancer killing claiming more lives than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, and melanoma cancers combined.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among all ethnic groups and is responsible for 1 in every 3 cancer deaths.
Nearly twice as many women die from lung cancer as they do from breast cancer. Three times as many men will die from lung than from prostate cancer. Based on 2009 estimates, an average of 437 people a day die from lung cancer.
Over 60% of new cases are never smokers or former smokers who quit decades ago. ONE in FIVE woman and one in twelve men diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked.
Overall, fewer than 10% of people with primary lung cancer are alive 5 years after diagnoisis. This is partly due to the fact that there is no early screening available. Currently, 80% of lung cancers are found too late to respond to treatment.
Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer but it is also the most underfunded cancer!
